Volunteer Information
The Thomaston Public Schools are introducing new guidelines and procedures for parent and community volunteers in our schools. Please know that we greatly appreciate all our volunteers, who graciously give their time and talents to our staff and students. While we do not want to place an additional burden on our volunteers, we feel it is in the best interest of our students and staff that we introduce this process at this time. There are two components that need to be completed prior to volunteering:
1. All prospective volunteers must be fingerprinted and cleared prior to volunteering in our schools. Fingerprinting can be done at the Thomaston Police Department at the following times:
Monday thru Thursday – 10:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m.
Friday – 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.
Saturday and Sunday – 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.
There is a fee of $15 that is the responsibility of the prospective volunteer.
Below, you will find a link to the Department of Children and Families form that is required. To expedite the process, you may print and complete this form. The form is also available at the Thomaston Public Schools Central Office, located at Thomaston High School. The form needs to be signed by other adult members in your household, so it is recommended that you complete this ahead of time. You may return your fingerprint card and the DCF form to Central Office or the Main Office at any of our schools. The background checks associated with fingerprinting typically take two or three weeks to clear

2. All volunteers must read and sign our volunteer expectations and guidelines. This can be done by using the link below or at the beginning of the first visit to the school.
Volunteer Expectations and Guidelines
Please note the following:
-If you wish to volunteer in more than one of our schools, you only need to complete this process once.
-The fingerprinting and background checks will be valid for a period of three years.
-This set of guidelines applies to volunteers who interact directly and/or supervise children. This includes, but is not limited to, classroom volunteers, Junior Achievement volunteers, chaperones for field trips and field day events. If you have any questions regarding the need for fingerprinting, please contact the applicable school.
Employees of the Thomaston Public Schools or ESS (as a substitute teacher) are exempt from fingerprinting in this case.
